Gear Acquisition Syndrome: The Curse of The Modern Filmmaker

GAS. Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Yeah, it's a problem and in my opinion, it is a major hindrance to filmmaking. On this week's show, I talk about when and how I first spotted this problem in the industry, its effects on filmmakers and most importantly how they can break free.

The emphasis on kit and keeping up with all of the latest equipment really does negate the one true aspect of filmmaking which we should all be focusing on more than anything else. It's also the thing our audiences love to see.

Tune in to this week's episode of Once Upon a Timeline to hear an in-depth discussion on this controversial subject and my thoughts on where we should be putting all our attention.

The Genius of Intercutting

Saturday, July 3, 3PM BST

Intercutting is such a valuable part of the editing process and mastering it gives us an incredibly high-end vision of what's possible in any kind of sequence. Our ability to build great structure, intelligence, journalism and style when we weave visual and narrative elements together are skills that every director is attracted to.

You will not be the same editor after this month's Bootcamp as these are structural skills that separate us from the everyday YouTube editor who's just learnt the software. We are going to teach you all of the laws, logic and nuances of this powerful part of editing.
